Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate love in all forms. It is also an extremely romantic day across the globe!
Some send cards, some send flowers - well, we like to send smiles. #JustTheKindOfPeopleWeAre
So! In the usual order of what we do best (make people smile) here are some delicious and stain free recipes that will have you and Bae grinning this Valentine's. Enjoy!
Let's get this started right...
~ Champagne oysters ( Entrée )
Place the champagne and shallot in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 3-5 minutes or until reduced by half. Add the cream and season with white pepper. Simmer for 3-4 minutes or until reduced by half and the sauce is thick and creamy.
Preheat grill on high. Scatter rock salt over the base of 2 small heatproof serving dishes. Arrange the oysters on the rock salt. Pour the cream mixture evenly among the oysters. Cook under grill for 1-2 minutes or until golden. Set aside for 2 minutes to cool slightly. Sprinkle with chives to serve.
Now for the main event!
~ Kale and steak salad
- 2 (8 oz.) petite sirloin steaks, Petite
- 1/4 cup Vegetable or olive oil
- 1 cloves Garlic
- 3 tbps. honey
- 2 tbsp Montreal marinade spice mix
- 1 pepper
- 3 tbsp Olive oil
- 1/4 cup Balsamic vinegar
- Kale salad
- Dried Cranberries
- Bean shoots
Marinate sirloin in Montreal marinade mix (or the marinade of your choice) honey and pepper. Then grill for 18 minutes until meat is tender.
Wash the Kale and steam the Broccoli. Once the Broccoli is steamed and shredded into pieces place in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool.
When the Broccoli is cool, toss together with the Cranberries, Bean shoots, Broccoli and allow it to sit for 20 minutes.
Once steak is ready allow 10 minutes cooling time before topping. Drizzle the Balsamic vinegar and olive oil to serve.
Loaded with crunchy, delicious kale, shoots, shredded broccoli and topped with grilled sirloin steak, this salad has a mildly sweet, peppery flavour. Fresh, filling and perfect for a Valentine's Day treat!
Did someone say dessert?
~ Heart shaped cinnamon donuts
- 5 cups of all- purpose flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoon yeast
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice)
- 6 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- cooking chocolate
For that sweet, sweet Coating:
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
You will also need:
- heart cookie cutter
- parchment paper
- baking sheet
- spray coconut oil
Heat your milk and butter up on the stove or in the microwave, until warm. Stir in the sugar, and then stir in the yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes, until foamy. In a bowl add your flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add in eggs and foamy milk mixtures. Beat on medium speed for about 5-8 minutes, until dough is smooth. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead dough by hand until it forms a smooth ball.
Add your ball of dough to a large, oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, and a dishtowel, and let rise for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size. On a flour covered surface, lightly roll out your dough to about ¾. Cut dough out with your favorite heart cookie cutters.
Place the cut out hearts onto baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 365 degrees. Take plastic wrap off of your baking sheet, and bake donuts for about 10 minutes, until they are a nice golden brown.
Whisk sugar and cinnamon together in a medium size bowl. Taking one baked donut at a time, spraying the entire donut with coconut oil or spray. Throw in cinnamon sugar mixture and toss until donut is fully coated. Melt the cooking chocolate for a more romantic dish, drizzle and enjoy!
